U 12's Match Report

Very tough day at the office today, in a mismatched game of Under 12's footy against a former Division 2 side in Mordialloc Braeside. Credit where it is due, Mordi were a well drilled team, who tackled well, kicked the ball to players on the lead and made good use of their forward entries - all things we can evolve to as a team.

I wont dwell too much on the performance, but I did want to call out a couple of things. I thought our captain for the day in Jacob really did demonstrate the type of pressure footy we want to play - he chased, he tackled, he marked and he was rewarded for his effort with a number of disposals. Well done Jacob.

Today was really always going to be about pressure footy, and learning how to win the ball back. The first 10 mins of the first quarter we did this well, and the third quarter was where we really stepped it up. Our first gamer in George was a stand out with his attack at the footy, and our opposition coach even rewarded him for our best player on the ground - great work George! I thought Liam defended really well, and stepped up into the ruck in the last quarter and did us proud. Luke was once again a stand out, and manged to contest every midfield battle and consistently kicked us forward.

The tackle pressure of note we saw from Jacques, Sage, Ethan P, Luca, Ethan B and Angus was good at times across the game, and some of our newer players in Jonas and Alex continue to improve with each game. We did see some excellent handballing to players in better positions from Hamish, Archie and Jack, and some great bursts during the game from Daniel and Henry, with opportunities for the team to improve here also. One area we really need to step up our game is our marking - all too often we are well positioned to mark the footy and move on, however we find ourselves without possession. Certainly one for us coaches to work on at training.

The other one we will be working on is our ground ball gets - we must stop watching the footy, and get down and pick it up. We drilled this last Wed, but is certainly an area for us to improve against the more physical sides.

Overall, some things to like and a lot to work on. Sundays dont come much tougher than a morning drive to the other end of the region and a heavy loss, so I'm optimistic there are certainly better Sundays ahead!

Thanks again to the volunteers for helping out, none of this works with out you, so a big thank you.

See you Wednesday (and remember to hang around for a Parma & drink in the club rooms after training!).

Cheers,  Wazza

Go Colts!

U 9's Match Report

This week the Under 9's played away at Murrumbeena and our captains for this week were Henry and Lachie

First Quarter

Murrumbeena jumped us very early kicking 2 very quick goals.

To our credit we started to play some better football with some excellent attacks on the football lead by Kahn. Hunter was on fire laying multiple tackles.

The highlights of our quarter was a courageous mark by Jake and a passage of play from Leo moving the ball well to Tommy who kicked a terrific pass to Hudson and Hudson went back and kicked truly.

Second Quarter

Hunter continued he excellent tackling, with others starting to show more intent and pressure lead by Stella, Tommy and Leo. Kahn continued to provide some excellent run.

William took a nice overhead mark and kicked a goal.

Third Quarter

We continued to work our way back into the game with Hugo and Stella having a stand out 3rd quarter. Bobby did some good things in defence. Hunter, Jake and Tommy continued to attack the play hard and produced some nice passages of play. The highlight of the quarter was Stella's terrific tackle which lead to holding the ball and seeing Stella kick her very first goal for the Colts!

Fourth Quarter

The colts gave it their all. Benji started to get a fair bit of the footy, Stella continued her stand out game. Leo continued his pressure and tackling. Sean in for his first game did some excellent things in the last quarter. Unfortunately we couldn't quite convert on the scoreboard.

It was a terrific game, and I'm very proud of how the team bounced back after being ambushed in the first 5 minutes.

The team showed excellent character and we will be better for it next Sunday.
