We are very excited to be one of three venues to be hosting this day on behalf of the SMJFL.

Please see all important details below.

U8 & U9 Lightning Carnival 2022

Fixtures

JL Murphy Reserve – Click here    I   Le Page Park – Click here    I   Highett Reserve – Click here

Uniform

All teams are required to wear their club jumper with home shorts for all matches. If you think there is a jumper clash within your pool, please contact your club to see if a clash jumper can be provided or else you can turn the jumper inside out for the duration of the match.

Footballs

All teams will be required to bring a football to the Lightning Carnival. The team listed first on the fixture will be responsible for supplying the match ball for the match.

Team Sheets

As per the regular season, team managers will be required to log into GameDay and produce a team sheet. You may notice there the team you are playing against doesn’t line up to the lightning carnival fixture, but this is only the case to produce a team sheet. Team sheets will be available to produce by Friday 12pm.

Umpires

As per the regular season, each team is required to supply the following:

  • One volunteer field umpire
  • One volunteer goal umpire

Match Day Roles

  • Team Manager
  • Coach
  • Runner
  • Umpire Escort
  • You will not have to provide a timekeeper as the ‘Host clubs or SMJFL will supply a timekeeper and siren etc’

Team Managers

All team managers are required to check in with the SMJFL Match Managers at each venue 30 minutes prior to their start time. At this point, all team managers are required to hand in a team sheet as per the normal home & away season. Once this is completed, the SMJFL Match Manager will provide the team manager with the following:

  • Lightning Carnival Participation Certificates
  • FAQ Print out to assist with any questions you may have
  • QR Codes for the Football Record

Please ensure all team managers have their bib on as soon as they are present at the venue, this will assist the SMJFL staff in locating them throughout the day.

Coaches

There will be NO coaches allowed on the ground during the duration of the match, please ensure all coaches remain in the designated area until half time.

Format

All matches will consist of 2 x 12-minute halves with a 4-minute half time break. There will be one siren operating across both grounds, therefore it will be the coaches / team managers responsibility to ensure the players are ready to go. The SMJFL Match Managers & Ground Managers will be helping throughout this process, but the time will start regardless of if all teams are ready or not.

There will be a one-minute warning siren prior to the start of the match & prior to the commencement of each half.

Direction of Kicking

There will be no coin toss to decide the direction of kicking. As shown on the maps included in the Lightning Carnival Handbook, the team listed first on the fixture will kick in the direction of the arrow. Please ask the SMJFL Match Managers or read the signs provided at the venue if you are unsure which way this will be.

Conclusion On Each Match

At the final siren, please ensure all players & officials are off the ground allowing the next teams time to be ready for the commencement of their match. Shaking hands is strongly recommended to take place off the ground near the boundary line. Please note, there is to be NO Singing of the Club Song at any stage throughout the day, this is solely a participation carnival and a celebration of a great season!
