U 12's Match Report

Another very difficult game up in Division 3 for us today, lots to work on but lots to like also.

I'll start off with our captain for the day in Luca who ran all day thru the midfield and just never gave up. He asked the team to tackle hard, kick to the wings and help your team mates in his pre game rev up speech, and to his credit - did all those things and led from the front.

The first quarter was probably our most competitive. Bentleigh Highett weren't kicking straight because we were applying so much pressure to them. We are now tracking stats on tackles, pressure acts and spoils so we can really see where we are working hard and where we have work to do. These stats for the day showed Luke, Liam, Ashton and Ethan P as our standouts in applying this pressure to win the footy - well done boys. In fact there were pressure stats for each of the boys on the ground today so we know they are all contributing, particularly against such a tough side.

The midfield and ruck were particularly challenging tasks today, and our rucks in Liam, Jacques, George and Henry all battled hard and won a number of ruck contests, and our mids in Luca, Ashton, Luke, Angus, Daniel, Connor, Jacob and Ethan P all rotated well thru the midfield and wings. Our standout player for the game was Ethan P who took a number of goal saving marks, rushed behinds, tackled, kicked long out of full back and even managed to take some marks on the wing. Well done Ethan!

We did also see some good pressure play in bursts from Hamish, Jonas, Sage, Ethan B and Alex who contributed well and kept the opposition score down. Daniel and Jack combined well at one point down the right wing for Jack to kick a long bomb goal wards that very nearly went through for a major! Along with Jacob's pacey run down the wing, these were two of the attacking highlights for the game. George was another who had a fantastic second game of footy and took some really strong overhead marks - we are looking forward to your continued development in the world of footy George - well done.

With more players back next week, we're all looking forward to more improvement and more good footy. Thanks again to the parents who helped out today, it is much appreciated!
