U 12's Match Report

What a great game today. We lost in a closely fought game, but we could not have asked much more from any of you. On a windy day, your running over four quarters was just fantastic, and as coaches, parents and onlookers we were really proud of all of you.

To start, I'll call out our captain Liam for the day, who after the pre-game rev up, led from the front all day. He marked, he tackled, he kicked long, he manned up - everything we asked from him he did superbly.

We were kicking into the wind to start, so we knew our defence needed to be bang on and if we could limit the damage we'd take that as a win. Ethan P stood out this quarter and made a number of goal saving marks, rushed a behind and kicked out from goal long and to the wing - just as we practised. We had some big marks in this quarter from Ashton, from Taj and from Luke - who used the footy to great effect. We also had some big crunching tackles from this group in addition to Jack and Angus making life very difficult for Vampires.

We then had the wind in the second quarter, and I wanted to call out a fantastic passage of play that led to a goal. Ethan B took a fantastic mark on the wing, took his time and sent a great ball forward, Jonas then got involved who kicked it on, Jack and Henry combined well to ensure there could be no intercept, for Daniel to find the bobbling footy and snap it home truly! Really great work guys! We had a lot of the footy this quarter and our forward pressure was fantastic - every time we lost the ball, we tackled hard to win it back. Sage was having a great quarter, and Alex found plenty of the footy as well. Connor was again tackling guys twice his size and winning the footy and did not stop running all day.

The third quarter came around and if we could keep them from scoring we would have the wind in the last to try to bring it home. Jacques who had a fantastic day in the ruck for us went down to full back, and took some goal saving marks and could kick it long for us. Ethan B was providing support, as did Angus who by now had been on and off the bench a few times with multiple "body on the line" type injuries. Thank fully he was fine and able to keep helping us. Jacob was another who we asked a lot of, either down back, in the middle or up forward, and was a great target for us.

The last quarter came around and we were 7 points down, but with the wind. Taj loaded up from distance with a great goal, and soon after a rushed behind had the scores level. Hamish got himself involved after a few good handballs and nearly kicked a goal, while Liam moving into the forward line nearly finished off a very nice move. Luca was another who ran and tackled all day and really pushed into the last quarter. His tackling once again was excellent. We pushed an extra man forward to try to push for the late winner and unfortunately for us, Vamps found an overlap into the wind and pinched the win late on.

Overall an excellent game of footy and the new standard of footy we will now see each week.

Well done Colts!

U 9's Match Report

After our grading games we had been moved up a division and we were hosting SMD. After a couple of great games Benji and Troy were our captains.

First Quarter

We could tell straight away we were playing against a higher level of opposition. SMD started off well but our mids quickly took control. Lachie showed great intent early with some strong tackles and excellent ball movement. Our first goal came from a terrific kick by Tommy to Hudson in the pocket, who put it straight through the middle with his trusty left foot. Jake showed some excellent team play with a centring kick from the pocket to Lachie who kicked a goal.

The ball spent a lot of time in the forward line with excellent pressure from our mids and backs - Hugo, Kahn, William, Stella and Dylan all did some excellent things.

Charlie did really well in the forward line with his tackling and ball winning. Hudson snagged another goal and Tommy also kicked a great goal and his first for the year accompanied by an entertaining celebration.

Second Quarter

SMD started the quarter with a quick couple of goals. To our credit our backline tightened up and paid closer attention to their opposition. Jake and Lachie had amazing quarters. Henry attacked the footy well, Chance showed some development with his skills with an excellent pick up.

Once we got it forward Max created plenty of pressure and resulted in a goal to William.

Third Quarter

A great quarter from the colts, William took a great mark. Jake and Kahn continued their attack on the footy and fierce tackling. Hugo took an excellent mark, showed plenty of run and moved the ball well from the backline. The forward line fought hard and made it hard for SMD to get the ball out of our forward line. Troy's spoil resulted in a goal to Benji.

Fourth Quarter

SMD had the wind and we knew they were going to come hard at us. At the 3 quarter break we let the team know exactly that and we want everyone to come off after this quarter knowing we gave it our best.

The team did exactly that. Max continued to apply pressure, Hunter started to get a fair bit of the ball and Stella become unstoppable in the backline. Hugo, Lachie and Jake continued their great games.

Another excellent team game from the under 9's.

Well done Colts!

Jason
