President's Report 2018
Season 2018 has been another tremendous year for our club both on field and off field.
Congratulations to our U14 Div 2 Port / South Boys team for winning the premiership. A thrilling win and it capped off a fantastic season for this team.
Congratulations to our U11 Boys, U12Div 1 Girls and U14 Div 4 Port / South teams for making their Grand Finals. A wonderful effort by all involved.
Overall our teams performed very well and most importantly our players, officials and supporters were professional and courteous throughout the year.
On field this season we had in excess of 400 players over 11 Port teams and 6 Port/ South Teams. 5 teams are mixed, 6 teams are girls and 6 teams are boys.
Our Junior Club keeps growing with new members and more players coming in from Auskick and families relocating to our wonderful area.
We encourage all parents to help the kids on game days with specific roles.
Auskick - with 25% of the 120 participants being girls this shows the important growth of our sport. We thank Dan Crawley for his time this year as Auskick Co-ordinator and we look forward to seeing him again next year involved in our mighty U8’s squad.
We welcome our new Auskick Co-ordinators for season 2019, Brendan Hooper and Admin Shanthi Nadaraja. We are looking to grow Auskick participants to 150+ via communication at Port Melbourne, South Melbourne and Galilee Primary Schools.
Please encourage any new kids and parents to join.
Senior Football Club – this year has been a huge advance towards working together as “one club”. The committee views our relationship with the senior football club as imperative and important for the future growth of our juniors.
Over the next couple of years we will see our older junior boys and girls start to become senior players. This has already started to occur with our girls.
We welcome the appointment last month of past 200+ AFL game Western Bulldogs star, Lindsay Gilbee as our New Senior Coach.
Coming directly from an Assistant Coaches role at St Kilda we look forward to Lindsay imparting his wealth of knowledge to our junior coaches in due course by implementing and sharing football strategies and basic game plans.
Off the field the club has generated good revenues through Sponsorship and by continuing to provide a strong Food and Beverage offering during training and game day. Refer to the Financial report for further detail.
Steve and his F&B staff have again done a wonderful effort throughout the year. It has been important for us to find a solution where parents do not need to be rostered on the BBQ or canteen duties and in turn enjoy their kids footy with a great morning coffee and hot food.
This initiative has required investment from the club for some equipment and the increase of staff costs, however the benefit overall is clear. We hope you all agree.
Murphy Reserve Pavilion
You will notice plenty of changes in the coming months as the construction of our new pavilion with additional change rooms, storage, kitchen and social area added to the facility kicks into full gear.
We ask that you be patient as access to the reserve and getting around the construction site may be a bit more difficult than normal.
Work to the pavilion is scheduled to start near the end of the year.
Thank you to the CoPP Council and the State Government for funding this project.
Thank you to the AFL for the $100k grant towards the project.
Next year we will be utilizing transportable buildings for change rooms and containers for storage, so our Food & Beverage offering will be diluted, hence this will reduce our income for season 2019. However we will endeavor to provide as much on game day as we currently offer.
We still have $55k to pay the council on practical completion of the building – some of which we have - and we look to be holding a large event in 2019 to help raise about $40k.
Please keep an eye out for this event and we hope you can all be part of this exciting time for our Club.
