MATCH REPORT rOUND 4 - Sunday May 19th
It was a bright and early start for the Under 10’s who headed out to Mulgrave to face the unknown (to us) Waverley Park Hawks.
We all managed to make it on time and find the oval!
The team got off to a strong start in the first quarter with strong midfield performances from Lewis, Will Bacon and Claudia leading the charge. With a slight wind advantage we managed to keep the ball largely in our forward line. Some great link up play saw us peppering the goals, Finn, as always was a beacon up forward, supported by Albert, Koby, Frosty, Jono and Liam.
We stuck to the team plan of getting the ball forward and locking it in once there. The midfield were clever in their activity behind the ball and led by Lewis and Will B, the ball rarely left our half.
Koby, Jono and Liam were also strong as forward defenders which was great to see. These are the lessons that we have practiced at training and it is very rewarding to see the team put the plan into action.
For the next three quarters, we managed to put together a full game effort and easily account for the Hawks, who had some strong players.
· Charlie, Captain for the day who was a hero with his strong tackling and pressure
· Will Bacon, Lewis, Woody Claudia who held the middle together early, Claudia played a huge role in the ruck both in the air and on the ground, she was also awarded player of the day by the opposition coach!
· Albert, who scored a Rioli like goal in the third and could easily have had two, great stuff.
· Ardi, Emma and Ozkar were helped by Freddie in the backline. Ardi attacked the ball with vigour and Freddie and Emma kept the Hawks honest, there were no easy goals.
In all a great team effort, to see the kids play together and work together was fantastic. We are building a strong team and after grading, given our strong start to the season, will no doubt face some tougher opposition in the coming weeks.
We will update Teamstuff as soon as we are provided with details for this Sunday and the coming weeks.
