Match Report Round 2 Div 1 - Sunday April 22nd

Best players: Tiernan, Jeremy, Archie E, Lachlan

Match Day Awards: Lukasz, Julian, Jeremy

After not kicking a goal last week, it was great to get our first goal for the season early in the 1st and

remove that mental blocker. The game then moved into a tough, seesawing battle with the oppo hitting the scoreboard more regularly than us and taking an advantage into the first break.

We looked OK, with good balance in our zones across the ground, although they had a good group of fleet footed mids that were doing some damage in the second. We were winning in the ruck, but breaking even in the clearances. Some changes were made and into the third starting to match and redress the disparities around the ground.

Into the last quarter, there was still a sizable gap, however our ball movement was getting slicker and disposal better, resulting in the margin shrinking. All of a sudden, and trailing by several goals, we were hearing the gap was less than a goal and still five minutes left on the clock. The attack was ramped up and we continued to push the ball into our F50 and narrowly missed a couple of chances, causing oppo kick ins or stoppages. The clock finally counted down to zero and we were left the narrowest margin behind at the end.

After a disappointing round 1 last week, and in a weekend to start ANZAC Day, it was simply fantastic to see the fight and spirit in this group that got us back into the game, gave us chances to win, and showed everyone watching what is possible. Heartbreaking is the word to describe this week. But hopefully we learn from this experience and move forward to bigger and better things.

We now look forward to next week to build from where we finished this week - GO BOLTS

Match Report Round 2 Div 14 - Sunday April 22nd

Best players: Quentin, Cooper, Ollie, Lachie, Fred, Beau, Angus, Alex, Quincy, Sam, Will. Honourable mentions: Tom L, Jack, Pat, Dylan, Raife, Seb, Archie.

Match Day Awards: Encouragement Awards: Fred, Will, Josh.

With the late 5pm start time, footy conditions could not have been better for the historic day night clash with an undermanned St Kilda City at home. Our boys had the ascendency early but were a bit rushed going forward and wasted chances. Thanks to good midfield pressure from Lachlan, Quentin, Jack and Josh, and an impassable Ollie at half back, after 10 minutes we settled and with Archie prominent up forward, put some scoreboard pressure on. In Q2 the teamwork started to flow. A great sequence from halfback started with the determined Cooper to Quentin and after some great second efforts by Angus and Fred, finished with a goal from Beau, in a terrific team highlight. The quarter was topped off by Will coolly slotting his first ever goal. The third started well, with Alex marking strongly up forward and adding a major, before things got a little sloppy with loose checking, blind kicking and position drift. After the break, the team was able to refocus, and finished off the game strongly with some stylish and unselfish link play; new players Sam and Quincy were in everything but importantly there were quality contributions from all.

A really pleasing team performance – well done boys.

Match Report Div 1 - Sunday April 15th

Match Day Awards: Speriden, Tiernan, George

After a long wait the first round was finally here. And football conditions greeted us - wind, persistent

showers, and a wet ground. We had an even start and were moving the ball into our F50 well in Q1 with a

couple of shots on goal just missing, The second again was an even battle, although the oppo gained

some ascendancy on the scoreboard leading to half time. The third quarter was disappointing - all of the

work that looked like it was coming together in the first half fell apart. The oppo had multiple forays into

their F50 and only several misses kept it from being an embarrassment. Their mids got on top in the last

and controlled the ball and the scoreboard. All in all, a fair 3 quarters, a bad 1 quarter from us, resulting in

a loss. We set ourselves new goals for next week and look for improvement in field positioning, player

intensity for the whole match, and our ability to have more shots on goal.
