FINALS WRAP UP

In the first week of finals, our under 16 girls faced off against St Bedes Mentone, with close result all season against them.
St Bedes set the tone quickly with some strong marking from them in the forward line, getting some.quick goals on the board early.
Our girl came to match them in the second quarter, with some foot magic by Clem and Jelly getting us on the board.
Match fairly even at half time, St Bedes amped their game in the second half to set the scoreboard pressure high. Our girls were unable to fight back with scoring, going down to a strong St Bedes team in the end.
It has been a privilege coaching the girls and a great season all up.

Match Report Round 12 Sunday July 23rd

Under 16 girls vs East Malvern

Well we knew it would be a tough game from the start, and added to that a wet weather game, even tougher.
East Malver burst out of the blocks early with some goals to apply the scoreboard pressure. With silky skills and strong leads, it was hard for our girls to make and impact in the first half.
The second half we began to apply our normal strong pressure game, and hit the scoreboard with some good marking of the slippery ball to Clem who then sailed it through. Consistent pressure and a much better second half to our girls.
East Malvern eventually running away to a win.
Thank you to all who bared the elements to come and support us

Match Report Round 11 Sunday July 16th

Under 16 girls Vs St Kilda City

The team started off quickly and in no time the ball was in our 50m and locked in the for almost the whole first quarter. Plenty of movement and shots on goal were the result of the girls working really well with their forward defensive pressure.

With all strong quarters and some first time goals for some girls, we came away strong winners  63 to 2

Well done girls and support team!!! 😊

Match Report Round 10 Sunday July 2nd

U 16 girls vs Beaumaris

After an earlier round defeat against Beaumaris, we were determined to make amends. Despite low numbers on field, we were focus from the first bounce and worked the ball to our 50 where is was locked in for the majority of the game.

Hard tackles, and utilising the centre well, allowed the girls to dominate and the scoreboard was looking great. With some constant rotations on field and girls getting a go everywhere, it was great to see everyone contribute. In the end, convincing win to our girls!

Go Colts 😊

Match Report Round 9 Sunday June 25th

Under 16 girls vs St Peters

We were in for a tough game up against St Peters who are sitting 2nd. And with 8 players out it was going to be a tough day.

First quarter our girls came out of the gate firing with some quick ball movement and exposing the opposition defense to run down and deliver to our forward line. Some great tackling and accuracy we scored first and were up at the quarter break.

With the inclusion of Jelly (Nayley) in the second quarter who slotted a quick goal, the girls were on top and looking great.

After half time the legs started to tire and with no interchange, the opposition were able to push through and come through winners by 16. But an exceptional effort this time around and dramatic close of score gap from last times meeting.

Well done girls!

Match Report Round 8 Sunday June 18th

Under 16 girls vs St Bedes Mentone

Up against a tough team, the girls knew they had a chance, only going down by 4 points against them previously.

Kicking the first 2 goals, the girls came out firing. There pressure on the ball was intense and with purpose.

Winnie had the tough job of following one of the tough players, and she dominated from start to finish.

Despite a few injuries, the giros kept their heads high and pushed through to claim the win in a 4 point thriller!!

Match Report Round 7 Sunday June 4th

Under 16 girls vs East Malvern

With a tough assignment ahead of us, the girls were ready to lift their performance from the last match up against the top side.
And that's exactly what they did, kicking the first 2 goals and really putting last years premiers under pressure early. Clem being the goalkicker for the day bringing in 3.

It wasn't long before East Malvern found their quick feet through the midfield and delivered a few tough minutes that excelled them to the lead.

They second half was outstanding by our girls, winning the 3rd quarter and keeping East Malvern scoreless the whole second half!
We missed out by 14 points, but outstanding pressure and effort by the girls to finish with that outcome. Pizza awards going g to Zoe for her tackle pressure and 2nd and 3rd efforts, and also to Bella, who ran consistently through the midfield and provided many attacking kicks forward.

Well done to everyone and thank you to the helpers for the day!!

Match Report Round 6 Sunday May 28th

Port Volts U16 girls vs St Kilda City

After some confusion starting the first quarter with 3 less players on field, our girls picked up with some great attacking on the ball.

Ahead by a couple of points in the first quarter, then girls took advantage of the breeze in second quarter and pulled further away from St Kilda.

We have displayed excellent defense in all of our games, but today we really put forward out attacking ability.

With head over the ball, clean hands and some awesome passages of plays and contested marks, a full team effort ensured a convincing win by 32 points.

Fantastic team effort girls!

Match Report Round 5 Sunday May 21st

Under 16 girls vs Beaumaris Fc

Another close match from our girls, with a big focus on pressure on the ball on this game. Second quarter saw it locked in our half for most of the quarter with our forward and mids applying fantastic pressure on the ball in our 50. 6 scoring shots that quarter but only getting points. Still great opportunities.
Close contests the whole game and a winning 4th quarter by our girls, but just falling short of the overall win. Great effort by all.

Match Report Round 4 Sunday May 14th

Under 16 girls vs St Peters

A close game the whole way, there were some fantastic passages of play by the girls, putting us on the scoreboard.

St Peters had a fiercely fast midfield, breaking the packs and entering forward, outscoring us in the end, but only just.

It was the first game for both Mia and Camryn who had great games and have a lot to bring the team this season.

Thank you to all who assisted through the day!!

Match Report Round 3 Sunday May 7th

Under 16 girls vs St Bedes Mentone, Round 3

Well this match was close from start to finish. There were some fantastic passages of play from the girls, and some relentless chase downs finishing with amazing tackles. The speed and determination was fantastic. Mariella scoring her first goal down forward and Jelly sneaking on in from the boundary all in the second quarter put the girls in front going into half time.

A hard slog through the 3rd quarter from both teams and again finishing tight.

4th quarter was set up for a classic ending with our girls looking to pick themselves up from last weeks match. A valiant effort by everyone on field running themselves hard, but losing legs in the dying minutes to be able to push back in defence, and Mentone sneaking a goal in with only a few minutes to spare. Going down by 4 points, still a wonderful effort, with the girls improving every week.

Just some work with the transitions from offence to diffence and pushing up and back down the field, and then we will be looking more ominous to the rest of the competition.

A solid fantastic effort by the 2 new girls Winnie and Zoe. Winnie a speedster off the backline created some nice run of play downfield and made some vital tackles. Great work to both!

Thank you again to my support team and the parents who help out with duties. Much appreciated!

Match Report Round 2 Sunday April 30th

Game 2 u16s vs East Malvern

We knew coming up against East Malvern was going to be a tough game. The score line was not representative of the girls efforts, which persisted until the final siren. A convincing win for East Malvern, however very positive things to look at from our girls. The tackle count being one of the most impressive stats. But I would like the girls to know that its the start of the season with new players, and I have a lot of faith in the team and where we will get to through the season.
Many thanks again to my ever so reliable team manager Simon, and parents who assisted us throughout the game!!

Match Report Round 1 Sunday April 23rd

Fantastic way to start the season against St Kilda with a win.

It was a close battle throughout the whole game, but with some brilliant passages of play on the outside from a fast paced Bella, consistent rucking by Apples and great ground ball skills from the contest by the likes of Zoe, Liv and our on ballers, the girls pulled away winners.

Such a positive outlook, as there are more skills to improve on, and we can definitely develop our game plan through the season to produce and even higher standard.

A great effort to all the first time girls, and also to the under 14 girls who filled in for us.

A big thank you to my assistant for the day Chris and team manager Simon, as well as our parents who pitched in as runners and water carriers. This all adds to the success and team values.

Looking forward to round 2!
