CANCELED - PETER BEDFORD CUP – SUNDAY MARCH 22ND
SMJFL UPDATE on club training and practice matches - Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The SMJFL is making the call now to suspend all training for clubs, umpires and all other league programs, including practice matches and social gathering events, to be effective immediately, until further notice.
As such our Peter Bedford Cup has been canceled.
On Sunday March 22nd Port Melbourne Colts JFC will host our annual friendly practice match round as we play for the Peter Bedford Cup!
Peter Bedford played 52 games with Port Melbourne but is best known for his time at South Melbourne, where he won Victorian Football League's (VFL's) Brownlow Medal in 1970 as the fairest and the best in the competition.
Here’s a great article that outlines Peter’s allegiance to both clubs
But on Sunday March 22nd it's all about our U8, U9, U10, U11, U12 mixed teams & U10/U12 girls playing a game of 'real' footy before the start of the season.
It's also all about the Port Colts and South Districts clubs and families building relationships, as neighbours - and as U13, U14, U15, U16 Boys and Girls alliance partners with composite teams.
Same rules, ground set up, bibs, etc as a normal game (except no SMJFL paperwork). canteen, coffee and a look at the new JL Murphy pavilion.
Coaches and team managers will send out further information to determine the availability of players - please keep an eye out for a TeamStuff alert.
